I knew exactly what I wanted (the famiglia duvet set):
A normal person would get a new duvet set and use it for, I don’t know, bedding? Not me. As soon as I saw it I knew it would make perfect curtains for my living room…
I’m not going to do a full tutorial, but here are the basics of how I did it:
- remove the back of the duvet from the front
- cut the front in half to make two panels
- use the fabric from the back to edge out both sides of each panel and add length to the bottoms
- I like to use pleat tape with pins and rings for hanging. I think it looks more custom than the clips, and if you are already sewing, it’s not much harder. Sarah has a great tutorial at Prairie Perch.
- IMPORTANT: if you use pleat tape with zigzag fabric, you have to make sure the spaces for the pins are lined up with the points of the zigzags, or it will look wonky, and you’ll lose the zigzag effect. However, when you line it up properly with each point, the tape will bubble up and not lay flat between the points. Just fold the excess and sew it down. (Hope that makes sense).
Anyways, I’m loving how the new curtains really add some impact to that side of the room. Now I just need some new pillows for the couch!
OMG Carissa, they look amazing! What a fantastic job you did, I'm jealous. Love Missoni!!!
ReplyDeletewow, that looks SO good! i never would have thought to turn a duvet cover in drapes, and honestly, i like that fabric better as drapes anyway...shows it off more. great job!
ReplyDeleteI think I probably would've expected the use to be for bedding, but I'm *SO* glad you didn't because this is so gorgeous!!! They make the most fabulous curtains and no one else from the Missoni madness got curtains (c: Bravo, girl!
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea!!! They look great!
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS! Those look amazing! So clever to make drapes out of it!
ReplyDeleteThese drapes look just fab. I like the fabric much better as drapes than a duvet cover. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTalk about chic! Carissa, they are fantastic. Never would I have thought of this. M.
ReplyDeleteinspired, thank you!
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea! i just finished making coral burlap curtains for my bedroom. it was fun but having something premade is so much easier. plus, i have a coral sheen on everything because burlap goes everywhere! i will look at duvets in a whole new light now.
ReplyDeleteThey look fabulous, and like we said, no one else has them. Your home is a reflection of your one of a kind personality! I can't wait to see what you make your pillows out of!
ReplyDeleteWow - those curtains look totally fab and I never ever would have guessed they were originally a duvet cover! Great twist on a mass produced product - now they are totally custom!
